What are candies?

Just browsing the user profile and I was looking over the Candy Land options for doing various things with the candies. Can anyone enlighten what the following options do?

Hide Gifts in posts:
Hide Ribbons in posts:
Do not receive a PM upon receiving a new Gift?:
Do not receive a PM upon receiving a new Ribbon?:
Hide Candies in posts:
Hide User Name Changes in posts:

i was only trying out these options yesterday and they got enabled when i enabled the lottery. But I don't think having them is a good idea. It's better for members to use their candies to redeem real gift cards

So unless someone is desperately interested in the options you listed I'll most likely disable them all.

Candies are sort of points you get for making posts (Hopefully more quality than simply quantitiy lol). You also get points for replying to threads, setting up a poll, voting on threads (even your own threads lol) etc... Eventually you can change them in for gift cards (For example I would be at 30$ something).. they can also be donated to others, or used to enter the smartcanucks lottery which draws every Monday evening (See the tea room). Welcome cdnbaby, I hope you will love it here!! Be sure to join us in the tea room and games room for some fun!

Just a note, you can no longer change them in for gift cards unless you are an older member... people were joining and posting every single website on the internet etc just to get candies, so it was being abused too much.
